Abstract

Solving a scheduling problem requires efficient search control strategies and methods dealing with resource constraints. In this paper, a knowledge-based framework, which provides generic support to task scheduling and resource balancing, is presented. This approach is based on a combined application of goal-directed search and constraint satisfaction techniques. Scheduling algorithms and their application in offshore structure inspection planning are presented. This work is being carried out within a European Community funded project Reliability-based Inspection Scheduling for fixed offshore platforms (RISC). Introduction One of the difficulties in most scheduling problems is that there is, in general, no easy way to generate a schedul
