Abstract

Automation of a chemical reaction process requires the control of certain system variables. Problems can occur when these variables display inverse responses. Consequently prospective measured, and thus regulated, variables should be tested for this type of behaviour. Design of such an automated process would therefore be facilitated if large ranges of system parameters could be simulated simultaneously. Such an aid would also have to deal with the looser system de- scriptions and imprecise parameter and variable values typical during the design phase. This paper presents an application of fuzzy qualitative simulation to this type of problem. The existing simulation algorithm is described and it is shown why it was found to be impractical for handling real-world p
