Abstract

An overload is a common problem in modern power systems. In fact, it is impossible to avoid overloads which may lead to a failure or damage of power system equipment as well as to the collapse of the entire system. Therefore, power system operators must take safety measures to clear overloads so that their durations and magnitudes do not exceed the allowable values. This paper describes an expert system application for clearing emergency overloads in power transmission systems. The expert system was developed to provide suggestions to power system operators on control actions to be taken to alleviate a given overload. T
