Abstract

In the framework of type approval procedures for measuring instruments, testing labo- ratories are having to pay increasing attention to software evaluation. The increasing use of software in legal metrology requires compliance with certain metrological quality criteria. Some of the most important of these requirements refer to the protection against manipulation and fraudulent use of measuring instruments. A clear separation of software into parts subject to legal control and parts not subject to legal regulations must be made. To carry out this task successfully, the complete relevant data flow of the software must be known.
