Abstract

Reduction of competitive hypotheses by generalized conceptual knowledge in ES for production line design H. Yamamoto Department of Information Science, Wakayama University, 930, Sakaedani, Wakayama-shi, 640, Japan This paper describes some aspects of an expert system for assisting production line design. The expert system which uses hypothetical reasoning repeats same kinds of reasoning contents. In order to solve this problem, we develop the method to use inductive reasoning in the expert system. In the inductive reasoning, the method of generating the generalized conceptual knowledge for machine tools is proposed. 1 Introduction This paper will discuss some aspects of an expert system for assisting production line design developed by the author [ 1 ]-[ 3] . The examples used in this system is a shaft with various diameters. Nonmonotony in the design reasoning process of the system is controlled by hypothetical reasoning! 1 ].
