Abstract

Computer aided determination of closed form solutions for linear transient heat conduction problems in inhomogeneous bodies W. Heidemann, H. Mandel & E. Hahne Institute of Thermodynamics and Thermal Engineering, University of Stuttgart, D-70550 Stuttgart, Germany ABSTRACT In the present work the Kantorovich method [1], [2] is used to derive an approximate closed-form solution for heat conduction problems in multi-layered solids. The solution procedure is presented in a form suitable for programming. The accuracy of the method is investigated using a numerical example. By means of temperature field equations cal- culated for the example, the possibilities of simple direct use and visualisation are shown. INTRODUCTION The determination of transient temperature and heat flux fields in multi-layered bodies is important for calculating and optimizing the performance of technical processes. The mathematical description requires a set of partial differential
