Abstract

This paper is concerned with the cooling system of an electrical unit with a time dependent (i. e. load dependent) internal heat generation. The performance of the unit diminishes with increasing temperature. The electrical unit is placed in a closed box with cooling channels on two opposite sides. The geometry of the unit is complex, the physical properties are difficult to find and the thermal conductivity tensor is anisotropic. In order to simplify the problem, the unit is divided into three different parts with simple geometries, and the physical properties of the unit are estimated. A numerical model is developed based on a finite volume method. Measurements of the surface temperatures and cooling rate for transient experimental test
