Abstract

This paper presents the newest results of a nearly finished WP5 project named \“HarmoniQuA”. This international project deals with harmonisation of quality assurance in model based studies in river basin management. This project consists of four work packages, focused on knowledge base development, supporting tool development, tool testing and dissemination. As a general result of this project the MoST (Modelling Support Tool) is being produced, which combines a knowledge base and guideline tool. Keywords: quality assurance, mathematical modeling, water management, water framework directive, good modeling practice. 1 Introduction The methods of mathematical modeling are in these days very popular and daily used in all branches of water management sector. It is already known reality, that relatively small investment into detail study of impacts of proposed actions or measures on hydrological system are always positively reflected by savings on investment costs of measures practical realization. Nowadays, it is possible to apply mathematical models on different parts of hydrological cycle either separately or globally, depending on selected mathematical model, see table 1. Anyhow the study’s investment costs are relatively small, in relation to investment costs needed for practical realization, still they are not negligible. Unfortunately, in contrary to realization phase, where several international and uniform quality control norms and standards already exists, there are not such instruments widely applicable for mathematical studies. Although some local, usually national, norms or recommendations exists, but there are mostly not
