Abstract

Grid independent upwinding developed by Roe et.al. was modified to apply to the shallow water equations. Some numerical tests by unsteady two dimensional flows showed good ability of the model to catch the discontinuous phenomena such as Mach waves, bores and hydraulic jumps. 1 Introduction The upwind differencing is essential for the numerical treatment of the hyperbolic equations and it had been already well established for one- dimensional problems. On the other hand, for the multi-dimensional problems the most upwind schemes use that of one-dimensional linear convection equation and upwinding is carried out dimension by dimension.
