Abstract

The Baton Rouge Brownfields Program (BRBP), administered by the City of Baton Rouge-Parish of East Baton Rouge Planning Commission has successfully established partnerships with local community groups and non-profit organizations to bring funding for Brownfields redevelopment into one of the most disadvantaged urban areas of the United States. Although a community rich in history, cultural diversity and social character, Baton Rouge, Louisiana is challenged with below average income and education levels and nearly double the national percentage of families below poverty level. The BRBP has leveraged approximately $20,000,000 using $775,000 in Brownfields grants.
