Abstract

Parts of the pressure of an existing high-head power development are being reconstructed. This includes the adaption of the connection to the surge tank. The flow conditions in this arrangement were to be studied for various loading cases occurring during operation. The pressure and flow conditions occurring during these processes were calculated for the overall system using a unidimensional numerical program based on the characteristics method. The unsteady flow processes in the region of the branch point were calculated. The unsteady processes were seen to proceed relatively slowly so as to allow the assumption of steady flow conditions for the subsequent calculations. In order to
