Abstract

Analysis of pervious high pressure tunnel ZhaoKang Lu Wessex Institute of Technology, Ashurst Lodge, Ashurst, 1 Introduction The traditional design theory for pressure tunnel is based on the assumption that the water pressure is acting on the inner surface of concrete lining, which is considered as impervious. For the development of high water head delivery tunnel, particularly the waterway tunnels for pumped storage projects with large diameter and high water head, the traditional design theory which neglects seepage pressure in concrete lining and rockmass is not reasonable. This paper presents a new design and analysis theory of the use of mechanical-hydraulic coupling, and the application to the design of high pressure tunnel (610 m water head) of Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station (GPSPS) (2400 MW installed capacity, the largest pumped storage project in the world). The procedure of analysis and design of pervious high pressure tunnel is as follows:
