Treatment of roadway drainage by sub-base course specimen prepared with charcoal derived from waste wood Y. Kanjo, N. Yurugi & M. Yamada Osaka City University, Japan. Abstract In order to prevent the flood in urban areas and to recharge the ground water, road pavement changes to porous asphalt pavement which give the function to permeate the rain water to the underground. But roadway drainage would cause the ground water pollution because it contains various kinds of pollutants such as heavy metals and poly-aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs). In this study, we made sub-base course specimens with the various contents of the charcoals derived from waste wood, and evaluated the treatability of these specimens with the washing solution on the road surface of highway, which were seemed to contain almost the same pollutants with roadway drainage. Judging from these experiments, the washing solution contained high concentrations of suspended solids, PAHs and heavy metals. The result of the adsorption isothe
