Abstract

Hydroggiss is a software package combining the essential concepts of a GIS with a flood hydrology model. The raster method of data handling is used to calculate average hydrologic parameters from distributed data. Regional parameters are derived to allow hydrograph predictions at ungaged sites. A lumped hydrologic model, based on a regional dimensionless unit hydrograph and the Soil Conservation Service runoff curve method for abstractions, is used in simulation. Examples of application in western Canada are given. 1 Introduction Simulation of a hydrograph, resulting from a rainfall over a watershed, remains the pivotal task of hydrology. Intuitively, distributed modelling should provide the best simulation results. At present, however, the major obstacle to the routine use of distributed models is the lack of distributed data which would acc
