Abstract

Iterative and optimisation methods are currently used into solving groundwater flow equation. The theorical selection of associated optimum acceleration parameters or that of preconditioning matrix are based on an a priori knowledge of some key eigenvalues. When one deals with heteregeneous porous media, such criteria have to be adjusted. Our investigations focus on the well known successive overre laxat ion iterative method. The determination of the optimum relaxation factor needs only the evaluation of the spectral radius of the block Jacob i matrix. It was performed from an extension of the min-
