Abstract

Integration of the broad array of fields in environmental engineering, and eventually beyond that, is necessary to understand the problems in water management fully. Consequently decision support should be given based on the knowledge from all the various fields. A concept for such decision support systems (DSS) is presented with model integration as one of its key elements. The Modular Modelling Sys- tem is discussed based on our perception of model integration. The need for standards for data formats is addressed briefly. There are a few requirements on the software to accomplish the com- munication between the different elements in the DSS. Typically such DSS should cover the jurisdiction of a small country such as The Netherlands, where each organization in that area of jurisdiction has its own support system
