Abstract

A multimedia health risk assessment model was developed that predicts the fate and transport of chemicals in environmental media, and estimates the associated health risks. The development of the model was based on the combination of existing models and algorithms. The combined program was given the name "Total Risk of Utility Emissions" (TRUE) model. Input information to the TRUE model consists of power plant emissions, physical characteristics of environmental media, exposure, food and water consumption information, and chemical toxicity parameters. Among the various chemicals emitted from power plants, mercury (Hg) has recently received special attention as field measurements have resulted in aquatic concentrations that may lead to potential ecological and healt
