Abstract

Regional air quality models are analyzed regarding questions of reliability and validity of pollution simulations carried out with them. The treatment of photo-oxidants is mainly discussed as an example. General ideas are illustrated using simulations of a photochemical smog episode in Central Europe with a rather reliable and a less reliable configuration of a specific model (EU- RAD). 1 Introduction Regional and local air quality models have become an indispens- able tool for environmental research and application to environ- mental assessment and policy questions.
