Abstract

This article describes an experiment by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, through the State Secretary of Planning, to promote economic development in the interior of the state. It concerns the creation of Consortiums for Regional Development, which aim at inducing an endogenous style of development in the region, to look for a more balanced territorial development by stimulating local potential, supporting local development initiatives to generate employment and income.
