Abstract

Model Hierarchy for Tropospheric Chemistry Simulations A contribution to subproject GLOREAM Barbel Langmann, Susanne Bauer and Daniela Jacob Max-Planck-InstitutfurMeteorologie, Bundesstr. 55, 20146 Hamburg, Germany Motivation The global, regional and local scale model hierarchy ECHAM-REMO-GESIMA is being further developed to improve the understanding of formation processes of photo-oxidants together with the changing oxidising capacity of the atmosphere especially in the European/German area. The main focus is to couple the models with different scales by 'nesting' the dynamical and chemical variables and to incorporate chemical modules 'on-line' in the mesoscale dynamical models to be able to identify chemical-dynamical feedback mechanisms. Short model overview For the global to local model hierarchy we chose four major models. ECHAM: The global Hamburg climate model is described in Roeckner et al
