Abstract

Development of Numerical Schemes for High-Resolution Urban Scale Models A contribution to subproject SATURN M. Lambrecht, O Knoth and E Renner InstitutfurTropospharenforschunge.V.,Permoserstr. 15, 04303 Leipzig, Germany Introduction In a collaboration carried out by different research groups in Germany, a microscale model (the MIcroscale TRAnsport and Stream model MITRAS) is being developed, which is aimed at high-resolution simulations of urban pollution scenarios. In this contribution, numerical schemes for the solution of the grid-scale model equations are investigated. The model development starts from the existing nonhydrostatic mesoscale model METRAS (Schlunzen, 1988, Liipkes and Schlunzen, 1995). The very high spatial resolution (1 to 5 m horizontal grid size) requires a formulation of the model equations that explicitly takes the presence of buildings in the model domain into account. This is achieved by the
