Abstract

Estimation of BenzofaJPyrene Emissions from Organic Fuel Combustion for the North-Western Region of Russia A contribution to subproject MEPOP V. Tsibulski and M. Yatsenko-Khmelevskaya SRI Atmosphere, 194021, St. Petersburg, Russia One of the most dangerous pollutants entering the atmosphere as a result of anthropogenic activity, is benzo[a]pyrene, which has a strong carcinogenic effect. In Russia B[a]P emissions from industrial sources are registered, but B[a]P emissions from organic fuel combustion, which is another considerable source of these emissions, are not taken into account. This means that official Russian statistical data on B[a]P emissions are underestimated. In this work, an attempt is made to estimate B[a]P emissions from combustion of organic fuel (coal, fuel oil, gas) in the north-western region of Russia, which includes the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad, Novgorod and Psko
