Abstract

Exchange of NO* and Og at a Beech Forest Floor A contribution to subproject BIATEX-2 K. Pilegaard, P Hummelsh0j and NO Jensen Rise National Laboratory, DK-4000 Roskilde, Denmark Introduction The nitrogen oxides, NO and NC>2 (NOO, present in the atmosphere are important for the tropospheric chemistry by contributing to the regulation of Os and OH radicals and thereby important for the regulation of the oxidising capacity of the atmosphere (Crutzen, 1979). Because of the very sparse information available on NO emission from temperate forest soils, the objectives of the present study were to estimate the NO emission from a temperate deciduous forest soil and to relate the emission to factors such as soil temperature, soil humidity, nutrient status and microbial activity. Preliminary results of this study are presented. Methods The exchange of NO, NO: and Og between the atmosphere and a beech (Fagus sylvaticd) forest floor w
