Abstract

Relationships between Local Ozone Concentrations, Regional Precursor Emissions and European Atmospheric Circulation Patterns Guest contribution W Fricke and W Vandersee Deutscher Wetterdienst, Meteorologisches Observatorium, D-82383 Hohenpeifienberg, Germany Introduction The effect of changes in anthropogenic precursor emission on ambient ozone concentration is commonly assessed with extensive model calculations. It may, however, also be deducted from observations where chemical processes are implicitly included: We use European precursor emission data (EMEP, DBR Stuttgart), 4-day back trajectories (European Model, DWD) and measured ozone concentrations at a receptor site for establishing empirical relations to the relevant precursor emissions under the flow climatology typical for the receptor. Method The idea is based on the fact that differences in ozone concentratio
