Abstract

Study of Aerosol Nano-Particles and Their Interaction with Ozone A contribution to subproject CMD M.Yu. Arshinov, B.D. Belan, and T.K. Sklyadneva Institute of Atmospheric Optics SB RAS.l, Akademicheskii ave., 63405 5,Tomsk, Russia The purpose of this work is to study the interaction between atmospheric aerosol nano-particles and ozone. The following processes are possible: * both substances are formed simultaneously; * nano-particles are the result of heterogeneous reactions in which ozone takes part; * aerosol nano-particles form a basis for the ozone sink. However, measurements in the real atmosphere do not provide unambiguous answers. Based on the results obtained during forest fires, we have found that the dynamics of ozone and aerosol number concentrations show out-of-phase behaviour (see Fig.l) which could be caused by the aerosol particles acting as an ozone sink. On the other hand, increases in NO an
