Abstract

The German Tropospheric Research Programme 1996-2002 Guest contribution R Winkler and H Zock GSF - Forschungszentrumfur Umwelt und Gesundheit GmbH, Projekttrager des BMBFfur Umwelt- und Klimaforschung, Kuhbachstr. 11, D-81543 Munchen, Germany The general scientific objective of the Tropospheric Research Programme' (TFS, Forderschwerpunkt Tropospharenforschung) is to lead to a better understanding of the tropospheric system, particularly with respect to the problem of the formation of photochemical oxidants. This involves ozone pollution, summer smog as well as changes in the oxidation capacity of the atmosphere. The research activities will improve the diagnostic and forecasting quality of chemistry transport models (CTMs) for the troposphere. However it is intended not only to improve the basic knowledge of atmospheric chemistry but also to enlarge the scientific basis for future en
