Abstract

Transport of solutes in heterogeneous porous media is considered when the condition of large-scale mass equilibrium is not valid. A two-equation model based valid for mobile/mobile systems has been obtained by the method of large-scale volume averaging. The method gives directly the "effective" properties from a local representation of the heterogeneity through a set of three closure problems. Numerical solutions of these problems are presented in this paper. Numerical experiments are carried out for both nodular systems and random stratified systems, and the results are compared with theoretical predictions. Good agreement between theory and experiments is obtained. 1 Introduction The impact of heterogeneities on solute t
