Abstract

This paper presents a numerical study of a free surface flow and its sediment transport by using the depth-averaged Saint Venant equations. The objective appointed is the determination of hydrodynamic characteristics (Height and Velocities) in a reservoir, as well as the evolution and the distribution of solid concentrations in the studied area. The Saint Venant equations are solved with the finite explicit difference method using the predictor-corrector Mac Cormack scheme, while the two-dimensional diffusion-convection transport equations are discretised using the upwind explicit scheme. The develloped model is applied to an Algerian dam. 1 Introduction One of dramatic consequences of the sediment transport is the dam sihation which decreases their stora
