Abstract

This paper is based on partial results obtained from an exploratory research project carried out in Rio de Janeiro’s metropolitan area (RMRJ). It aims to illustrate how Brazil has been coping with unsustainability issues in urban areas. We focus on pointing out the achievements obtained so far, as well as new possibilities resulting from this research. Keywords: sustainable cities, unsustainability.
