Abstract

Spatial distribution of SO, in the Athens basin E. Karali, M. Tombrou Laboratory of Meteorology, University of Athens, 33 Ippokratous Abstract This study is an attempt to examine the influence of the wind field on SC>2 levels in the greater Athens basin. The CTDM model, improved by the incorporation of the PAL 2.0 algorithm, was applied in the examined area. A satisfactory agreement between the measured and estimated SC>2 values was observed at the time the maximum values appeared but the model overestimated these maxima whereas, the rest of the hours it gave lower concentrations than the recorded values. 1 Introduction The dispersion of air pollutants in the Athens basin is a combination of the complex terrain and the meteorological conditions. The large number of inhabitants as well as the industrial and commercial activities have also contributed significantly to the environmental degradation of the above area. This study deals with an attempt to
