Abstract

A mathematical/computer model of electrical activity of a thin sheet of cardiac tissue is developed. The model takes into account both the dynamics of the cardiac membrane and the complex archi- tecture of cardiac tissue. A so-called cross-shock protocol is used to induce circulating activity and the stability of the activity is examined. The model results are compared to activation patterns observed in thin strips of canine epicardium submitted to the same excitation protocol. The spatio-temporal activity in both model and experimental preparation were both qualitatively and quantitatevly similar. Introduction Re-entrant or circus movement tachycardias probably cause most episodes of sudden cardiac de
