Abstract

A computer model has been established to simulate two-dimensional arte- rial trees as branching systems of straight cylindrical tubes. Resistance and flow conditions in the model trees are governed by Poiseulle's law. Tree gen- eration is performed by successively adding segments, so that certain struc- tural and geometric constraints are fulfilled at each stage of development. In the present work, the structural characteristics of trees with 4000 ter- minal segments generated by constrained constructive optimization (CCO) are investigated and related to the variation of constraints and optimization criteria. 1 Introduction Our interest in modeling vascular trees on the computer is to adequately represent the coronary arterial system
