Failure Mechanism Of RC Piers Under Impulsive Vertical Earthquake

This paper describes both experimental and analytical studies for the reappearance of a circumferential crack in reinforced concrete (RC) piers during the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake in Japan. In this study, a new developed push-up impact test was performed for the RC pier models. The circumferential crack failure was occurred in the specimens and its failure process was taken by using the high-speed video camera. And also the multi-degree of freedom model analysis was adopted into verification of the circumferential crack failure mechanisms.
