Abstract

A fatigue tests and theoretical approach are two major paths for the prediction of the fatigue behaviour of the ship hull structure. The wide tool for this purpose proposed by majority of the classification societies is supported on the fatigue test results. Paper presents such results for cross girder connection of the ship structure. The numerical algorithm for assessment of the fatigue crack propagation in ship structural details basing on fracture mechanics was developed. The paper presents the numerical approach to integration of the Paris formula. The simplified method for calculation of the stress concentration ratio by using existing solutions for two and three dimensional models of the fracture mechanics are applied, in which stress state while crack develops is reflected by applied correction factors. The proposal of the calculation of the influence of the mean stress will be discussed. The numerical calculation of the fatigue crack propagation for those groups of structural details was made. The comparison of the calculation and real scale model fatigue tests results was
