Abstract

The church "Saint Cathoghikeh" is a historical monument of the 13* century in the downtown of Yerevan City. At the present time the church is in a very poor condition. Its bearing structures are deteriorating being subjected to significant vibrations from the subway passing beneath it and high humidity. All this circumstances are making the earthquake resistance of the church very low. The paper describes the method of preserving the church from further deterioration by its movement on about 30-40m away from the current place of significant vibrations and by retrofitting it using base isolation. The sequence of the operations on the separation of church from its foundation, its movement and fixing in a new place is given.
