Abstract

Based on the Hydrodynamic Theory of Traffic Flow, a series of quasi shock wave models are established to depict the behavior of traffic flow at signalized intersections by applying an approximate analysis. The combination of micro simulation and macro simulation is applied to analyze the vehicle delay, especially the 'twice delay' at the signalized intersection. The results were compared with those from WEBSTER method and the observed results. It shows that the quasi shock wave simulation method is more reasonable and suitable for being used to study traffic delays at signalized intersections than those from the WEBSTER method. 1 Introduction At present, there are several methods used to calculate the intersection delay, among which WEBSTER method is mo
