Abstract

The article discusses the quality parameters of urban public transportation in the city of Belo Horizonte, capital of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A Latin American city with a relatively high quality of life, Belo Horizonte has one of the better management agencies of public transport in Brazil. There are however dilemmas and challenges in the construction of quality urban transport. The paper discusses different approaches to public service management, analysing the progress in citizenship and life quality achieved by the transport management model adopted in the city. 1 Introduction Two conflicting news stories form a useful introduction to a hotly debated issue concerning public transport in Belo Horizonte, the state capital of Minas Gerais in the S.E. of Brazil
