Railway vehicle maintenance and information systems V. Stuchly, J Grencik & R. Poprocky Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University ofZilina, Slovakia Abstract To stop the continuous fall in economic results of railways in Slovakia there is a strong need to cut down operational expenses. Rolling stock maintenance process is one of the candidates to economising, but there is a high risk of endangering safety or at least lowering the traffic reliability resulting from worsened technical state of vehicles. The paper analyses the up to now maintenance management systems and attempts for rolling stock technical conditions monitoring used on ZSR (Slovak Railways), as well as approach of the Department of Machinery Maintenance Engineering, the University of Zilina, to improvements in maintenance process on railways in the past.
