Abstract

East Japan Railway Company, Japan Abstract Shinkansen passengers are requested to have their tickets examined on a number of occasions: their limited express tickets at a Shinkansen automatic ticket gate, at a conventional station ticket gate and on Shinkansen. To improve the above checking methods, we have been developing "the reserved seat information system", aiming to omit redundant checking of passengers' tickets when passengers sit in their reserved seat. This system is able to let the conductor know the necessary reserved seating data by radio transmission when passengers insert their tickets in a Shinkansen automatic ticket gate .
