Abstract

Railway EMC environment and measurement K.W.E Cheng*, L.K. Siif & T.K. Ho* * The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong ^Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, Hong Kong Abstract Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is a major concern of the railway system. This paper presents the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) environment and identifies a list of specifications and standards, which will be used for EMC tests. Measurement procedure and methods will also be described. 1 Introduction Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) has been growing for last twenty years and now becomes an important issue across a wide range of industrial applications. Railway traction environment system contains many electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources [1]. The problem is getting serious partly due to the development of complex switching techniques in power electronics [2]. Nowadays, the traction drives are controlled by power electronic pulse converters, the emit
