High competition and structural changes in the industry will continue to affect terminal operators' activity in the near future. The trend toward concentration and verticalization along the supply chain in shipping industry will keep on lowering switching costs among competing terminal operators thus affecting negotiations, duration and validity terms of trade agreements. Within this environment there is a growing need for: • new management tools to improve decision making • visibility of processes • monitoring of performances • monitoring of quality of services delivered • effective team playing within organizations This article describes the general specifications of such tools and the actual experiences of using these tools at the La Spezia Container Termina
