Abstract

The requirements towards the quality of construction materials in the shipbuilding industry increase incessantly. It concerns also the cost screw propellers, which must compete with other kinds of ship propulsion e.g. adjustable pitch propellers. In the Polish shipbuilding industry only screw propellers of aluminium bronze are used and no brass propellers, develop new alloys with better strength properties and cavitation resistance in order to cope with the market requirements. The developed alloys are submitted to evaluation procedures by international organisations, which adjudge ISO certifications, and insurance companies.
