Abstract

An study of the behaviour up to failure of structural systems composed of load bearing walls by means of a numerical model developed for the analysis of masonry structures is presented. The numerical model, based in a Generalized Matrix Formulation, includes such capacities as nolinear geometric and material analysis. Load bearing walls are treated as equivalent systems of linear elements with special linking devices introduced to realistically model the connection between vertical and horizontal elements. A complete example consisting of a single masonry facade analyzed up to failure is presented to illustrate the capacities of the model. 1 Introduction The evaluation of the strength capacity of buildings composed of load bearing masonry walls
