Abstract

The design and realization of a partially foldable roof is presented by its authors, faculty members of the Department of Building and Architectural Technology at the Politechnical University of Madrid, achieved with the collaboration of the architect Pablo Campos and built up in Oporto (Portugal) by the Spanish firm TENT Arquitectura Textil S.L. The roof consists of three parts, anchoraged to two central steel arches and various surrounding points. The central part can be folded and unfolded by sliding its borders along two rails fixed to the arches, similar to the ones used in sailing masts. 1 Design Programme An area of about 500 nf had to be covered next to an old Portuguese house near Oporto, in the village of Marco de Canaveses, that was going to be used for open air celebrations and large meetings and had to have the possibility
