Abstract

Some general computer methods for electromagnetic analysis of electric rail traction systems are commented, with particular regard to problems related to harmonic pollution and electromagnetic compatibility. Some modelling ap- proaches are described in terms of possible applications, hardware requirements, mathematical models used, in specific applications to electric rail traction sys- tems (modelling and simulation of power semiconductor devices, power elec- tronic converters, electrical machines, traction line and track, signalling de- vices). Main requirements of software tools for industrial users are pointed out. 1 Introduction Conception, design, production and operation of electrical equipment in railway systems must be carried on according to international directives and standards.
