Abstract

Application of the DRBEM to the solution of viscous fluid flow in a channel C.P. Rahaim & A.J. Kassab Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of Central Florida, ABSTRACT The dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) is applied to solve the problem of viscous fluid flow in a channel. This type problem is formally governed by the Navier- Stokes equations. The DRBEM is applied to a modified nonlinear Burgers equation which account for the pressure gradient. The limiting case of the solution of this equation yields fully developed flow in a channel with constant and moving walls with or without a pressure gradient. Numerical results are compared to analytical solutions, and DRBEM results are shown to compare well. INTRODUCTION The governing equations for viscous fluid flow are the Navier- Stokes (NS) equations. These equations are a formidable set of coupled nonlinear partial differential equations which preclude analytical solutions except for a
