Abstract

Dynamic behaviour of a wall-checked embankment subjected to earthquake M. Pasquino", G. Frunzio\ G. Arena^ ^Dip. Ing. Civ., Fac. Ing., Reggio Cal., Italy Scienza delle Cost., Fac. Ing., Napoli, Italy Italy ABSTRACT A method for the dynamic analysis of enbankments in the hypothesis of a layer understood as a uniform, coherent agglomerate is proposed. The mechanical model proposed consists of rigid spheres connected by agreed upon tie-beams as the schematization of an elasto-plastic intercentral link which simulates, adhering well with the physical factor, the cohesive link. The model, although it was a rough and ready one, lends itself well to our attempt to study dynamically certain grounds from the particular angular point of view of the effects produced by the earthquake on the changed mechanical characteristics, the angle of attrition and cohesion. The theory proposed was verified in the light of some experiences which were brought about by si
