Bettmali^ TecWopze Amo'Wz'ue, 7m ABSTRACT An increasing effort is being devoted, in the field of structural engineering, to the development of identification techniques to be used for the parameters evaluation of mathematical models and for the localization of damages as well. In this paper a method for the identifica- tion of Young Modulus and density is presented; it is based on an iterative use of the eigenpairs of a structure, both numerical and experimental, leading to the solution of least squares problems with linear inequality constraints. Mathematical techniques have been introduced to gain stability of the method, to improve convergence rate and to reduce automatically the number of parameters which can be properly identified.
