Abstract

Numerical modelling of biological tissue freezing E. Majchrzak Department for Strength of Material and Computational Mechanics, Silesian University of Technology, Poland Abstract The applications of cryosurgery take place among others for causing a local necrosis of a tissue, the detachment of the bloodless tissue, the destruction of the cancer cells etc. and these methods of treatment are used in dermatology, gynecology, proctology, oncology, laryngology and also oral surgery. The cryoprobe being in thermal contact with the biological tissue causes that the freezing process proceeds in the domain considered. In this place one can consider the internal or external cryoprobe. The problem belongs to the group of moving boundary ones because the shape and dimensions of frozen region are time-dependent. In the paper the mathematical model of the process considered and the methods of solution are presented. Next, the examples of computations are shown. 1 Governin
