Abstract

A simple error indicator and adaptive algorithm for 2D elastic BEM H.B. Chen* & E. Schnack^ ^ Department of Modern Mechanics, University of Science and Technology of China, P.R. China ® Institute of Solid Mechanics, Karlsruhe University, Germany Abstract A new error indicator is presented which is a measure of the difference of two solutions for boundary stresses in elastic BEM. The first solution is obtained by the conventional boundary stress recovery strategy, and the second is by the use of the regularized hyper-singular BIE for displacement derivative. The latter is found recently with super accuracy and can be performed readily under conforming elements. Two numerical examples are given to show the validity of the new error indicator under h-adaptive strategy. 1 Introduction Error estimation and the consequent adaptive mesh refinement are crucial important in the numerical engineering analysis. In FEM, this subject has been extensively studied and some reliable
